Motorcycle Dreams

I drew this one for fun, for a personal project. Designing some sci-fi vehicles sounded fun and I haven't worked on anything like that in about two million years so why not, I though. The only thing that was delaying me was that these sort of designs contain a lot of ellipses and other things that are an absolute nightmare to draw precisely. So I decided I should model the motorcycles in 3d and use that as a base. I have worked with 3d programs a bit, but I am not that good at it, so this was a bit of a challenge and a good refresher.

The process went like this:
I sketched some rough designs.
I googled furiously for 2 hours about which free piece of software I should use.
I modeled the motorcycles in Fusion 360 since it seemed similar to Solid Works, which I am kinda familiar with. I swore a bit and modeled more.
I found out I can't export a large enough linework from a free Fusion 360 version so I downloaded blender.
I swore a lot more and managed to export the damn thing eventually.
I colored and had endless discussions with myself about which color choices would not suck.
I completed the drawing.

And after using all this 3d trickery for this illustration my convictions have been reaffirmed: 3d modeling can be kinda fun, but even simple rendering is still a bitch and a half.

Here's a gif of how I made it: https://www.deviantart.com/augustinasraginskis/art/Motorcycle-Dreams-gif-885182189?ga_submit_new=10%3A1625841814

Also I might or might not use this image in a future game I am making. Check out the game I finished recently. It's a little puzzle game of mine called Dream Mechanic available for free for windows here: https://ultra-shenanigans.itch.io/dream-mechanic
