Doppelgangers

This is one of those paintings where it took quite a few months between when I had the idea and when I started painting. I wasn't sure if I could paint this decently enough and it needed to marinate in the brain for a bit.

Basically I wanted to paint a few people battling against cartoon versions of themselves and while that might not sound like the most complicated thing ever, quite a few questions immediately came up: How do I solve this damn composition? Drawing multiple people doing different things is pretty hard to begin with. How do I make the cartoon versions distinct but still look like they belong in this painting? What should be the poses, what should be the designs, the hell do I do with the background etc. etc.

Anyway, I'm glad I finished this one. I can finally take it off the long list of ideas I want to make but are kinda intimidated by. Also this will be used in a little scifi puzzle game I'm making in my free time. There's a whole thing about some people taking genetic engineering and cyborg technology to the extreme and trying to look like cartoon characters in real life.
